Richard John "Dick" Helgeson, Sr., age 90 of Springville, TN, died Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Henry County Healthcare Center in Paris, TN after a long illness.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country in Korea. He was also an avid Trap shooter and worked hard in his earlier years at the Henry County Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing, and motorcycles and was a former member of the Detroit Thunderbird motorcycle club. He was a retired crane operator of Local 324 in the Detroit area.
Dick was born March 23, 1929, in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Orrin P. Helgeson and the late Eliza Melville Helgeson.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Verdien Marie Witt Helgeson of Springville, TN; daughter, Brenda (Brad) Adams of Durand, MI; and son, Raymond (Lisa Gosney) Helgeson of Liberty; grandchildren, Johnathan and Lance Adams, Austin and Bryan Helgeson, Kurt Adams, Michelle Adams-Manning and Michaela Saputo; and great grandchildren, Jase Colton, and Abigail and Anna Adams.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by son, Richard Helgeson, Jr; sister, Doris Helgeson Larson; and brothers, Bob Parker Helgeson, and Donald Orrin Helgeson.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 4, 2019, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Thursday, September 5, 2019, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Antioch United Methodist Church, 3116 W. Antioch Road, Springville, TN 38256. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 5, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Antioch United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Helgeson, Austin Helgeson, Bryan Helgeson, Kurt Adams, John Adams, Lance Adams, Dale Hopgood, and Tom Pierce. Named as honorary pallbearers are Jim Shuster, and Henry Soave.
Burial will follow Antioch Cemetery.
