Roger Dale Smith, age 71 of Shelbyville, TN, formerly of Paris, TN, died Friday, January 18, 2019, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN.
He retired from Tennessee Technology Center in Paris after 33 years of teaching general metals. Roger was also a sponsor of the Vocational Industrial Club of America. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan, loved all sports, and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed coaching his girls’ softball, soccer, and basketball teams.
Roger was born April 7, 1947, in Paris, TN, to the late Edwin Smith and the late Ida Jayne Smith Lovins.
He is survived by two daughters, Amanda Jo Smith (Willie) Hight of Shelbyville, TN, and Michele “Mickie” Smith (Darren) Duke of Decaturville, TN; two sisters, Karen (Charlie) McDaniel of Antelope, CA, and Crystal Pollock of Paris, TN; two grandchildren, Ami Marisa Duke and Jacob Dalton Duke; and one great grandchild, Kingston James Fletcher.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mickey Smith and Marvin Smith.
Arrangements are being handled Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN, where visitation will be Sunday, January 20, 2019, from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and continue Monday, January 21, 2019, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be Monday, January 21, 2019, at 2:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Chad Kennedy officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Carpenter, Skip Collins, Brian Willoughby, Chris Wiseman, Dustin Jones, and Brian Jones.
Burial will be in Mansfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Mansfield, TN.
