Betty Salyer Matheny

Betty Salyer Matheny, age 87 of Paris, TN, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Betty was born in Como, TN, on April 1, 1938, to the late Floyd Salyer, and the late Clara Peck Salyer.

On July 19, 1954, in Corinth, MS, Betty married James Elmer Matheny, who preceded her in death on July 1, 2011.

She was a member of Henry Baptist Church and loved her church family. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She enjoyed sweet treats, spending time outside, and eating Mexican food with her margarita.

Betty is survived by two children, Cheri (Troy) Hodge of Paris, TN, and Mark (Terri) Matheny of Springville, TN; eight grandchildren, Trina (Chad) Fisher, Jessica Matheny, Cassandra Matheny, Jennifer Carroll, Rachel Matheny, Jazmine (Collins) Wiles, Brandon Miles, and Kayla Hodge; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, James Steven “Steve” Matheny; nine siblings; and one special angel great-granddaughter, Scarlett Bledsoe.

Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at Ridgeway Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with John Sutton officiating.

Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery in Henry, TN, with Billy Lane, Jeff Matheny, Brandon Miles, Collins Wiles, Brian Hodge, and Desius McLucas serving as pallbearers.

Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Daniel Carroll.
