Betty Jo Swor Lowry

Betty Jo Swor Lowry, age 90 of Muskegon, MI, formerly of Henry County, died Friday, July 24, 2020.

Betty was born April 27, 1930, in Henry County, TN, to the late Wymer Clois, Sr., and the late Stella Swor.

She was married October 25, 1947, to Howard Lowry, formerly of Paris, who preceded her in death in 1988.

She raised her family in Muskegon beginning in 1954.  Betty worked as the store manager for Jay-Mar, Inc., in Plover, MI, until her retirement.  She was a talented seamstress and an avid gardener.  Over the holidays, Betty made raspberry jam, which her grandchildren regarded as “gold.”  She also enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and eating.

She is survived locally by her sister, Selonia Sanders of Springville, TN;   three sons, Joe (Barbara) Lowry of Colorado, James “Rusty” Lowry of North Muskegon, MI, Jeff (Kathryn) Lowry of CO; nine grandchildren, Wesley Okonzak, William Lowry, Ben Lowry, Zack Lowry, Laurin Lowry, Seth Lowry, Patrick Hinkley, Elizabeth Forsythe and Erik Hinkley; nine great grandchildren, Eryn, Tarah, Emma, Arthur, Treyvin, Ari, Lael, Jackson and Hazel; another sister, June Kennedy of Tupelo, MS; and one brother, Major Swor of Michigan.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Scarlet Hinkley; one sister, Virginia Taylor; and two brothers, Horace Swor and Wymer Clois Swor, Jr.
