Catherine J. “Cathy” Morris age 86 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family Friday, October 14, 2022.
Catherine Jeanette Crutcher was born March 22, 1936, in Model, TN, to the late G.W. Crutcher and the late Jewel Hicks Crutcher. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas Bryan Morris.
In Cathy’s teen years, her family moved to Buchanan where her father managed and later owned the Buchanan General Store. Cathy was a cheerleader at Buchanan High School and was valedictorian of her graduating class. With her typical humility, she was quick to point out that the class only had thirteen members. Cathy spent many hours at the store where she met the love of her life Bryan Morris. She often joked “she chased him until he caught her. They married November 22, 1953, while Bryan was serving in the Air Force and Cathy was a senior at Buchanan High School. Cathy joined Bryan in San Antonio, TX, after her graduation for the remainder of Bryan’s service. Upon his completion in the Air Force, the couple returned to Buchanan. They both then enrolled at Murray State Teachers College. Following Bryan’s graduation in 1958 they moved to Tallula, IL for Bryan’s first teaching job. This would be home for the next 30 years. Cathy worked for State Farm Insurance for over 16 years until retirement brought them back to Buchanan. Retirement only lasted a few weeks for Cathy when she went back to work for State Farm Insurance in Paris, where she worked for another 12 years. Cathy was an active member of Buchanan United Methodist Church and served as organist for over 20 years and was a member of the order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son Jeff and his wife Jennifer of Buchanan, TN; daughter Karen and her husband Ron Freemon of Harvest, AL; granddaughter Kaitlin and her husband Jeremy Doggett of Madison, AL; grandson Chad Baldwin and his wife Ginger and their children Jones and Sela of Brentwood, TN; and her special friends and caregivers Tressa Prince and Charlotte “Char” Meyer both of Buchanan, TN.
Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St./ P.O. Box 788, Paris, TN 38242 is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Ridgeway Funeral Home from 3 until 6 pm, and continue Monday, October 17, 2022, at the Buchanan Community Church after 10 am until the time of the service. Her funeral service will be held Monday, October 17, 2022, at 11 am at the Buchanan Community Church with Latricia Trull and Bennie Akers officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Futrell, Bob Futrell, Gary Hubbard, Ricky Weatherford, Dwayne Lax, Tommy Scarbrough, Don Townley, and Joe Pat Milam.
Burial will follow the service in Bethel Cemetery.
