Charles Thomas "Tommy" Hammond

Charles Thomas “Tommy” Hammond, age 91 of Puryear, TN, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, at his residence.

Tommy was born in Union City, TN, on December 9, 1934, to the late Wesley Naul Hammond, and the late Beatrice Harpole Hammond.

He married Jayne Arnold Hammond on October 25, 1959. Jayne survives of Puryear, TN.

Tommy was a lifelong dairy and row crop farmer who dedicated his life to agriculture and his community. He served as President of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau Board, where he supported and advocated for local farmers.

Since 1964 Tommy was a faithful member and deacon of Puryear Baptist Church. He was an outstanding student, graduating as the salutatorian of his high school class. Tommy was also a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Tennessee Volunteers.

In addition to his wife, Tommy is survived by two sons, Tom (Missy) Hammond of Halls, TN, and Tim Hammond of Puryear, TN; two grandchildren, Rachel (Dr. Phillip) Beradi and Charlie (Samantha) Hammond; six great-grandchildren, Jackson Kanatzar, Jayne Clair Beradi, James Michael Beradi, Joseph Becton Beradi, Charles Thomas “Cebo” Hammond IV, and Sophia Elizabeth Hammond; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by two brothers, James Carl Hammond, and Joe Wesley Hammond; and one sister, Betty Sue Hornsby.

Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN 38242, is assisting the family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Puryear Baptist Church. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Rodney Alexander officiating.
