Fred Hopper

Frederick “Fred” Hopper, age 83 of Paris, TN, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Fred was born in Newburgh, NY, on January 17, 1943, to the late John Milspaugh Hopper, and the late Louise Miller Hopper.

He married Cecelia McGowan Hopper on October 4, 1985. Cecelia survives of Paris, TN.

Fred was a 1961 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and continued his education at Orange County Community College in New York. He began his career with the New York State Police, serving as a State Trooper from 1968 until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement, he served as a New Paltz Court Officer for 10 years.

He was a longtime member of the “Ye Olde Model Railroad Club” in New York. In 2021, he and his wife, Cecelia, moved to Paris, Tennessee. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paris and the Henry County Gun Club, where he very much enjoyed the Thursday Night shoots.

In addition to his wife, Fred is also survived by one son, Christopher (Ellen Sargent) Hopper of Portland, ME; five grandchildren, Timothy (Jessica) Sheehan, Andrew Sheehan, Danica Sheehan-Ackert, Ryan (Christa Mathers) Ruger, and Mikayla Schumski; and his dog, Elsie.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Thomas Ruger.

Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. His remains are to be cremated with a memorial visitation to be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Haley Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Sheehan and Andrew Sheehan.
