George “Barry” Sandefer, age 82 of McKenzie, TN died Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Volunteer Hospital in Martin, TN. He was born January 2, 1942 in Lansing, MI. George lived a full and hardworking life, marked by his devotion to family, love of the outdoors, and quiet but steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. He married Barbara Ellis, June 30, 1962 in Dresden, TN.
Throughout his life, George worked in several industries; Armour Meat Packing, Knott’s Foods, Emerson Electric, and AutoZone. A skilled craftsman, builder, and mechanic. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his pets.
George was known for his blue eyes, big heart, and quiet strength. Those who knew him understood the depth of his love and kindness. Even through health struggles in his later years, including heart disease and dementia, George maintained a sweet and gentle spirit. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by two children, Barry(Amy) Sandefer of Paris, TN and Christi (Doug) Vaughn of McKenzie, TN; grandchildren Cody (Jermeckia) Sandefer, Brandon Blankenship, and Alyssa Lawton; great grandchildren Austin and Hayden Sandefer, Ella, Oliver, Miles, and Theo Blankenship; great great granddaughter Eleanor “Ellie” Sandefer. As well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one child, parents George D. Sandefer and Ola Bea (Jesse) McClellan; and one brother, Kerry Sandefer
Ridgeway Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 6th from 1-3pm at Tennessee Valley Community Church 2500 E Wood St, Paris, TN 38242.
