George Daniel Shankle, age 74 of Springville, TN, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at his residence in Springville.
George was born in Paris, TN, on February 26, 1951, to the late James Franklin Shankle and the late Ruby Key Shankle.
He married June Williams Shankle on March 10, 1977, and she survives of Springville, TN.
George retired from the Board of Public Utilities in Paris, TN; after 41 years of service working in the meter department and on traffic lights. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War but served in Korea. George was a charter member of the American Legion Post 89, Amvets Post 45 in Springville, and a member of VFW post 1889 in Paris. He was instrumental in the distribution of flags for deceased veterans on Memorial Day and installing veterans grave markers for over 50 years. He enjoyed trivia games, card games, and socializing at the VFW.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Lemonds of Paris, TN; one son, Jay Daniel (Jennifer) Shankle of Rossville, GA; four sisters, Kay Valentine of Paris, TN, Julia Graves of Bradford, TN, Rose Hoffman of Buchanan, TN, and Patty (Larry) Inlow of Paris, TN; seven grandchildren, Larz Lemonds, Jessica Lemonds, Ashley (Ryan) Gaut, Landon Shankle, Anna (Jonah) Barksdale, Addison Shankle, and Eli Shankle; seven great-grandchildren, and special friends Charlie Cuthbertson and Jackie Traywick.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Robert Shankle.
Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Chad Kennedy and Gary Collier officiating.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Paris, TN, with Landon Shankle, Eli Shankle, Carl Tanner, Larz Lemonds, David Darnell, Joe Darnell, Mickey Wheatley, and Ryan Gaut serving as pallbearers.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be employees and retired employees of Board of Public Utilities, Members of American Legion Post 89, Amvets Post 45, and VFW post 1889.
