Glen Theron Hastings, age 99 of Paris, TN, passed from this life to his heavenly home on April 9, 2022. He was a longtime farmer and steward of the land in the Pleasant Hill Community of Henry County.
He was born May 14, 1922, in Mansfield, TN, to the late Glen O. and the late Alma Derington Hastings. He graduated from Springville High School before entering World War II, where he served as a Staff Sergeant for communications in the 99th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received three Bronze Stars, Victory and Good Conduct Medals, and the American Theatre Ribbon. After returning home, Theron began his farming career and also worked at Holley Carburetor Factory for several years. In 2019, he was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the Henry County Veterans Day Parade. The same year he was interviewed and featured in Farm Bureau News magazine for his heroic service in the war and his stewardship as a farmer.
Mr. Hastings, along with his wife, lived on the Hastings Century Farm. Before retirement, he served on committees and boards for agriculture-related organizations and was an active member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Ward Hastings; daughter Amy Hastings Elizer of Jackson, TN; and grandson, Christopher (Stephanie) Elizer of Sandy, UT.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Monday, April 11, 2022, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Keith Nation and Randy Stephens officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Cemetery in Paris, TN.
