Jewell Maxine Morton

March 21, 1934 — March 13, 2026

Mrs. Maxine Hutchison Morton, age 91, passed away March 13, 2026, in Paris, Tennessee at the Henry County Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Morton, the third of eight children, was born March 21,1934, to her parents Nettie Lou Bostick Hutchison and Richard Hill Hutchison. She attended Hamlett-Robertson Schools in Crockett Mills, Tennessee, where in high school she was a member and officer of Future Homemakers of America, a member of the girls' Tigers basketball team and a Tigers cheerleader.

She was active in all school, church and college events that involved her children; she made endless costumes for their elementary school plays, baked countless cupcakes, cookies, pies and cakes for school functions, and was active in the Bethesda and Emmanuel churches in Crockett County, especially in the Vacation Bible School programs. Her home in Friendship was always filled with fresh flowers from her garden, and she often made altar arrangements for her churches. She and Mr. Morton farmed in the Bethesda community of Crockett County for twenty-four years and continued their work on their farm in Palmersville, Tennessee. She retired in 2002 after eighteen years with the Henry County School System at Cottage Grove, was a member of the Paris Seventh Day Adventist Church and had resided at Eiffel Gardens in Paris for the last several years.

She married Horace Morton, Jr. on August 12, 1953, and he preceded her in death December 25, 2019. Born into this happy union were five children: DebraAnn (Garry) Grimes of Paris, Richard Kenneth Morton, James Russell (Janet) Morton of Cottage Grove, TN, Mark Anthony (Christy) Morton of Palmersville, TN, and John Osborne (Kim) Morton of Paris; and her beloved grandchildren: Meredith (Dusty) Haynes. Paige (Lee)) Woods, Blair (James) DiMarco, Andy (Lindsey) Morton, Justin (Brittany) Morton, Blake (Kelsey) Morton, Charlie (Taylor) Morton, Allyson Morton, Shelby (Collin) Dougherty, Cody Morton, and Libby Morton; and eight great- grandchildren: Emma Stallings, Bo Morton Woods, Max Woods, Cameron Morton, Neely Morton, Wesley Morton, Dottie Willoughby, Chandler Rimmer, Chloe Rimmer; and her great great grandson, Brady Stallings and his mother, Abbey Stallings.

Additional survivors include a sister, Betty Hutchison (Gerald) Ferrell; a brother, Steve Hutchison, a daughter in law, Lynn Williams,  a sister-in-law, Monrose Churchwell Hutchison, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, husband, her son Richard, and a grandson, Grant Stallings; she was also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law Jennie Maude Osborne and Horace Greeley Morton; a sister, Darlene Hutchison Martindale, a brother Charlie Hutchison and wife Joyce; a sister Mary Ann Hutchison Watkins and husband Bob; a sister Melba Hutchison Rice and husband Franklin; a brother Jerry Hutchison, her in-laws Beulah and Forrest Morton; Hazel and Clarence Morton; Lurlene and Howard Morton; Ailene Morton Thompson; O'Neal and Louise Morton Via.

Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St./P.O. Box 788, Paris, TN 38242 will be handling the arrangements. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Funeral Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 9713 TN Highway 188, Friendship, Tennessee 38034, after 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Her funeral service will be held, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 12:00 pm at the Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Edgar Escobar officiating.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will follow in the Bethesda Cemetery in Friendship, TN.
