Joseph Lee “Joe” Chambers, age 75 of Buchanan, TN, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his residence.

Joe was born in Memphis, TN, on November 21, 1951, to the late Roy and Mary Chambers.

He married Becky Sue Chambers on July 12, 1984, in Lucy, TN. Becky survives of Buchanan, TN.

Joe was a longtime member of Buchanan Baptist Church.

He graduated from Fayette County High School in 1969 and earned his associate’s degree from Shelby State Community College in 1971.

In 1971, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving four years on active duty and 16 years in the Navy Reserve. He also began working for the Memphis Police Department in 1971 and served there until 1991.

After retirement from the Memphis Police Department, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle with Big Creek Cattle in Atoka, TN, until becoming the Brighton Police Chief in 2004. He would go on to resign in 2006.

In 2008, Joe and his wife moved to the Paris Landing area, where they enjoyed many years together.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by three children, Sam Chambers of Essex Junction, VT, Sarah (Bill) Gureck of Williamsburg, VA, and Joe McConniel of Edmond, OK; one sister, Joan Bringle of Byhalia, MS; and four grandchildren, Tom Gureck, Emma Grace Chambers, Elle Gureck, and Julianna Chambers.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, John Gureck; and two brothers, John Chambers and Jim Chambers.

Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be held Friday, August 21, 2026, at Buchanan Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will follow at Buchanan Baptist Church Cemetery with Dennis Duncan, Kyle Wallace, Rex Harden, Jr., Bill Gureck, Lynn Nichols, and Rex Martin serving as pallbearers.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Harden, Sam Chambers, Joe McConniel, and the men of Buchanan Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Buchanan Baptist Church, 6680 Buchanan Rd, Buchanan, TN, 38222.
