Joel S. Winsett

Joel S. Winsett, age 61, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in Louisville, KY. 

Joel was born March 30, 1965, in Paris, Tennessee and was the son of William "Bud" Winsett and Charlotte Curtis.

Joel worked for GRW Engineering for 30 years where he dedicated himself to his career and earned numerous certificates through the University of Kentucky and other institutions.

In his free time, Joel found great joy in gardening. Every summer, he proudly shared the most beautiful vegetables and flowers, often growing things that were not native to the Southern Indiana area. He had a special talent for making things grow and took great pride in what he could accomplish.

More than most anything, Joel loved the Blues and playing his many guitars. He spent countless evenings playing, practicing and perfecting his skill. Music was a huge part of his life, and the Blues held a special place in his heart

Joel also loved to travel. His favorite destination was New Orleans, Louisianna, where he enjoyed the food, the music and the city’s beautiful architecture. The older and more ornate the buildings were, the more he loved them. Another favorite destination was the ocean. Nothing made him happier than walking along the shore with Cathy, Rebecca and Aleah, watching Aleah play in the sand and enjoying the simple beauty of being together.

Joel was preceded in death by his father, William "Bud" Winsett and his mother, Charlotte Curtis and his oldest nephew, Jonny Powell.

He leaves behind his partner of 23 years, Cathy Wood; stepson, Shaun, stepdaughter, Rebecca; granddaughter, Aleah; two sisters, Misty Swinney (Russ), Brandi Foster (Kevin); nieces, Desiree Williams (Kyle), Madison Foster, Alyssa Foster and Amber Powell; great nieces, Ella, Presley, Kinsley and Charlotte; and two great- nephews, Brantley and Kash.

Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Henry County Tabernacle Cemetery.
