Mary Amanda Hailey, age 92, of Paris, TN, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN.
Amanda was born in Trezevant, TN, on January 14, 1934, to the late James William Hurdle, and the late Kate Adams Hurdle. She graduated from EW Grove High School in 1952 and received her degree in Education from Murray State University in 1956. On July 20, 1957, she married Robert Louie “Bob” Hailey. Bob preceded her in death on February 24, 2021.
Amanda taught school for a few years before she had children and then resumed teaching again in 1975 at Inman School and retired in 1995 to be a full-time Nana to her three grandchildren. She made several life-long friends during her teaching career and was remembered fondly by so many students through the years.
Amanda is survived by two children, Melissa Kate (Don) Oliver of Collierville, TN, and Brad (Karen) Hailey of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, Carter Hailey (Monica) Oliver of Germantown, TN, Jack Henry Oliver of Birmingham, AL, and Olivia Grace Hailey of Knoxville, TN; and one great-grandchild, Eloise Marie “Ellie” Oliver, daughter of Carter and Monica. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Beverly Dixon. Amanda also has several nieces and nephews she treasured as well. Minnie Lou Perkins was her dearest friend as the two talked to each other every single day for over 60 years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jo (Virgil) Wall; three brothers, Martin F. Hurdle, James (Janie) Hurdle, and John (Joanne) Hurdle.
Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Trent Bullock officiating.
Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery with Carter Oliver, Jack Oliver, Brian Dixon, Kevin Dixon, Mike Turner and Alan Wall serving as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
