Mattie Lou Griffin

December 21, 1928 — April 6, 2020

On Monday, April 6, the angels rejoiced when Mattie Lou stepped into heaven & was welcomed by her husband. Elroy has been waiting for 13 years to see his bride again.

Mattie Lou Griffin, age 91 of Paris, died at her residence surrounded by her children.

Mattie Lou was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church and has enjoyed fellowship at Shady Grove Baptist for the last several years and was active in the Baptist WMU. She retired in quality control after 37 years at Holley Carburetor Plant in Paris. Her first love was her husband and children. Her purpose later in life was to visit her friends in the nursing homes.

Mattie Lou was born December 21, 1928 in Dover, TN, to the late John Asher Futrell and to the late Mattie Ella Herndon Futrell.

She was married on August 1, 1948 to Elroy Vinson Griffin, Sr., who preceded her in death.

Mattie Lou is survived by her six children, Vince (Pat) Griffin of Dover, TN, Jane (Glen) Baars of Buchanan, TN, Mike (Margo) Griffin of Alexander, NC, Lisa (Jamie) Steffey of Georgetown, KY, Belinda (James) Shepard of Paris, TN, and Greg (Rosy) Griffin of Jackson, TN; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and beloved extended family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Belle Robertson, Maybelline Dell, and Judelle Futrell; and four brothers, Edgar Futrell, James Futrell, David Futrell, and Johnny Futrell.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN.  A private family graveside service was held at Jones Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Malcom Norton officiating.
