Peggy Sue Hammett Pritchard, age 87 of Ocala, FL, formerly of Paris, TN, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, at The Windsor Assisted Living in Ocala, FL.
She was born in Paris, TN, on March 17, 1939, to the late John Julian Hammett, and the late Ernestine Freeland Hammett.
In 1957, she married Jimmie Ray Pritchard, who preceded her in death on July 12, 2006.
Peggy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church–Paris, where she was active in the Lydia Dorcus Sunday School Class. A 1958 graduate of Grove High School, she later pursued higher education at Murray State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in history in 1983, followed by her master’s degree, graduating summa cum laude, in 1984. She went on to serve as a professor at Bethel University for many years. Peggy found great joy in traveling and proudly visited all 50 states.
Peggy is survived by one son, James David (Vicki) Pritchard of Ocala, FL; and two granddaughters, Aimee Pritchard of Ocala, FL, and Alison Pritchard of London, England.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Jean Atkins.
Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. Services will be announced as soon as they are finalized.
