A memorial service for iron worker Robert Eugene “Bob” Hurst of Cottage Grove is scheduled at noon Saturday at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

Hurst, 67, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Plumley Rehabilitation Center.

The body was cremated.

His wife, Jo Anne VanCleve Hurst, survives. They were married on July 1, 1967.

Born Dec. 10, 1945, in Aurora, Ill., he was a son of the late Carl Frances and Helen Myrtle Nichols Hurst.

Hurst was a Baptist. He was an Aurora resident for many years. He worked for 30 years as an iron worker through local Iron Workers Union 393. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of American Legion, AMVETS, VFW and Tiger Club, all of Aurora. He also was an avid baseball player and umpire for girls’ fastpitch softball in Aurora. His wife said he enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Paris Civic Center.

He also leaves two daughters: Kimberly (Matt) Bowne and Kerrie (Brian) Houck, both of Cottage Grove; four grandchildren: Brandi Bowne of Paris, Derick Bowne and Donjoel Houck, both of Cottage Grove, and Koki Williams of Minnesota; one great-grandchild: Chasdon Hummell of Paris;

One nephew: Rick Hurst of Aurora; one niece: Jamie Hurst of Paris; two sisters-in-law: Joy (Ray) Hanks of Cottage Grove and Caren Hurst of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and Jennifer Diederich of McKenzie, who a family members said was like a daughter to the family.

He also was preceded in death by a sister: Carole Anne Turner; a brother: Donald Hurst; and a nephew: Rob Hurst.
