It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Sammy Dale Simmons, age 71, who left this world on April 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love and warmth of his devoted family.
Sammy was born on July 27, 1954, in Huntingdon, Tennessee, to parents John Oscar Simmons and Veltie Lee Townsend, who preceded him in death alongside his siblings Tommy Simmons, John "JT" Thomas, Zula Mae, Dolly Jane, and his cherished daughter, Carol Lee Freeland.
Sammy was a man whose heart was as expansive as his laughter, and whose spirit was as enduring as the Tennessee hills he called home. He began a beautiful life with his beloved significant other, Teresa McFadden, 21 years ago on January 18, 2005. Together, they built a blended family that grew in love and numbers, surviving him are his beloved Teresa, his five daughters, Christy Lynn Reynolds (Thomas), Cynthia Wellenstein (Luke), Carrie "Paddle" Ann Marshall (Robie), Patricia Fletcher (Jay), Wendi Roberts (Trey), and his son, Brandon McFadden. Sammy is also survived by his brother, David "Toby" Simmons. His legacy continues in the hearts of his 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
For 42 years, Sammy dedicated his skills and work ethic to Emerson Electric in Paris, Tennessee, until its closing, and later contributed his talents to Pot O' Gold in Paris. His professional life was marked by a commitment to serving his community, demonstrated through three decades of volunteering with the Henry County Rescue Squad and two decades with the Puryear Fire Department. Sammy also worked part-time for Henry County EMS and the Henry County Sheriff's Department, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.
A man of many interests and talents, Sammy was known as KQ4SEM in the Ham Radio community, and his passion for music was evident as he played the steel guitar for various gospel groups, both local and traveling. His love for fishing offered him peace and joy.
Sammy will be remembered for his quick wit and loquacious personality that could light up any room. His ability to engage with anyone he met, weaving stories with humor and insight, left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His life was a testament to the power of laughter, dedication, and love, and his memory will forever be a guiding light to those he leaves behind.
Family and friends will gather at Community Bible 810 Grant Street, Paris TN on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with his service time to follow at 2 p.m. We will celebrate Sammy's life, honoring the indelible mark he made on the world. He will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will include :Thomas Reynolds, II, Luke Wellingstein, Robie Marshall, Thomas Reynolds III, Jacob Simmons, and Steve Madding.
Honorary Pall Bearers: Ty Williams and Tyler McFadden.
