Thomas Walter "Tom" Bennett

Thomas Walter “Tom” Bennett, Sr., age 58 of Puryear, TN, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.

He was born in Paris, TN, on February 5, 1967, to the late Warren Bennett, and the late Linda Neenan Bennett.

Tom spent a majority of his career working for Crown Lift Trucks, starting as a mechanic and working his way to becoming a Regional Safety and Health Administrator. In his early years, Tom spent time working for Middleton Lumber in Puryear, TN, and Forklift Systems in Nashville, TN. Over the last 5 years, Tom was an owner/operator of Tom’s Tree Service. He loved operating heavy equipment almost as much as he did the ladies. He was known for his smart-mouth, love for motorcycles, and advice-giving ability. He was known as “Whiskey Wally” to his friends due to being a “bourbon and beer connoisseur.

Tom is survived by his five children, Michelle (Delmar) Hill of Puryear, TN, Thomas (Keeta) Bennett of Cottage Grove, TN, Mandy (Garrett) Fitzke of Clarksville, TN, Mathew Bennett of Puryear, TN, and TJ (Teresa) Bennett of Chambersburg, PA; two sisters, Ruby Johnson of Paris, TN, and Betty (Clint) Jurnett of Paris, TN; and eight grandchildren, Nathan, Logan, Michael, Trinity, Hunter, Kelsey, Kallie, and Kennedy.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by one brother, James Bennett.

Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Price Cemetery in Puryear, TN, with TJ Bennett, Thomas Bennett, Brian Bennett, Dennis Bush, Logan Hill, and Tanner serving as pallbearers.
