Yvonne N. Hitt, age 96 of Buchanan, TN, died Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at her residence.
She retired after a 30-year career with the Arkansas Health Care Association, where she served as past president. During her tenure, she traveled extensively throughout the state and was responsible for helping start the Arkansas WIC program. After moving back to Henry County, Yvonne volunteered for 10 years with the Ladies Auxiliary at Henry County Medical Center. She loved fishing, camping, and gardening. She was an excellent painter and was very interested in genealogy. Those who knew her best described Yvonne as “one of the last true, southern ladies.” She was Catholic by faith.
Yvonne was born August 20, 1925, in Henry County, to the late Herman J. Nance and the late Pearl Price Nance.
She was married to Ret. Lieutenant Col. Theodore “Ted” Hitt, who preceded her in death on February 13, 2017.
She is survived by four stepdaughters, Karen (Jim) Siddall of Grand Prairie, TX, Kathleen Hitt of Arlington, TX, Carol (Charles) Eller of Arlington, TX, and Cheryl Worthey of Carrollton, TX; six step grandchildren; one niece, Pamela J. Sparks of Puryear, TN; one great niece, Melissa Green of Puryear, TN; one great nephew, Travis N. Sparks of Paris; numerous loving cousins; and caregivers, Heather Painter, John Curry, and Betty Jurnett.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lathan D. Nance, and Walter B. Nance; and two nieces, Linda Nance and Jeanette Green.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2022, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Sparks, Heather Painter, James Painter, Thomas Bennett, Clinton Jurnett, and Jim Siddall.
Burial will be in Price Cemetery in Puryear, TN.
