James Edward Kirby of Puryear, TN, passed away early on Saturday morning, May 16, 2020, at the age of 81. After several months of fighting cancer, he died peacefully at his home.
James was born in Brookport, IL, to Millard Kirby and Lee Helen Davis on July 8, 1938.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam Conflict. James was a retired minister in the Pentecostal Church of God as well as a retired school bus driver for the Henry County School System in Paris, TN. He loved to preach, and he also enjoyed fishing. He was a friend to everyone he met.
James was married to his wife Mary Kennedy Kirby on June 3, 2000 and would have celebrated their 20th anniversary next month.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his four children Darlene (Bill) Thompson of Apopka, FL, Patti (Pat) Murphy of Ocala, FL , Johnny (Diane) Kirby of Apopka, FL and Nichole (Mark) Shields of Apopka, FL; step-son Timmy Johnson of Monette, AR; one brother, Ronnie (Louise) Kirby of Poplar Bluff, Mo as well as many grandchildren, great-grand children and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents Millard and Lee Helen, his first wife Shirley Elfredia Kirby, his stepchildren Linda Faye Johnson, Ricky Dale Johnson and Danny Eugene Johnson as well as two grandchildren Robert Harley Davidson and James Clyde Thompson.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, P.O. Box 788 Paris, TN 38242. The body is to be cremated. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at the Lighthouse Ministries Church later at a to be determined date.
