Joyce Mae Smith

Joyce Mae Smith, age 82 of Paris, TN, died Friday, April 9, 2021, at NHC Healthcare in Milan, TN.

She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Paris, where she served as music director and organist for many years.  Joyce formerly worked at Howard & Jobe, Elovitz Jewelers, and retired from Griffey Clinic in Paris.  She enjoyed playing golf.

Joyce was born October 14, 1938, in Owosso, MI, to the late Joseph Janego and the late Mildred Klempirik Janego.

She was married July 6, 1957, to Richard Albert “Dick” Smith, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her seven children, Ronda (Charles “Mack”) McKnight of Humboldt, TN, Richard (Lisa) Smith of Springville, TN, Robert “Bob” Smith of Buchanan, TN, Peter Smith (Teresa Allen) of Jackson, TN, Brad Smith (Elaine Albrecht) of Paris, Billy (Lynnette) Smith of Paris, and USAF Ret. Kenneth (Samantha) Smith of Paris; one sister, Janet (Richard “Dick”) Walker of Owosso, MI; 17 grandchildren, Ryan (Aly) Smith, Casey (Mya) Smith, Calay (Mario) Smith, Joni McKnight (Cam Camp), Chas (Ashley) McKnight, Julia (Steve) Lowry, USAF Westley (Diane) Smith, Drew (Amy) Smith, Rebecca (Mikela) Smith, Rachael (Dillon) Madden, Brianna (Dakota) Robertson, Jenny (Craig) Cable, Jamie (Anthony) Bruce, Dustin Smith, Nick (April) Smith, Romania Molina-Hobbs (Brannon), and Desire Marie Smith; and 20 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Brian “Wally” Smith.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242.  Her body is to be cremated.  Memorial visitation will be Thursday, April 15, 2021, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the rosary to begin at 6:00 pm.   A memorial mass will be held Friday, April 16, 2021, at 12:00 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1210 East Wood Street, Paris, TN 38242, with Rev. Martin Orjianioke officiating.

A private burial of cremains will follow the memorial mass.
